The Official Unofficial Rams Recap…… Week 3 (Seattle Seahawks)
Game Result: Seahawks 37, St. Louis 13 (gamelink)
NFC West Standings:
The St. Louis Rams and St. Louis Cardinals both started Sunday in fourth place in each of their respective league divisions. At the end of the day, it was status quo in the Gateway City. After starting out 0-2 for the first time since 2002, the Rams provided the dormant Seattle offense with the opportunity it needed to get back on track.
With a San Francisco (2-1) win over the Detroit Lions (0-3) - and an Arizona (2-1) loss to the Washington Redskins (2-1) - the 49ers moved into a first place NFC West tie with the Warner Cardinals.
Opposing Head Coach: Overweight? Mustached? Resembles walrus?

Check. Check. And….check.
What The World Is Saying…
“All the ailing, winless Seattle Seahawks needed was everyone’s cure-all, a visit from the St. Louis Rams” - Los Angeles Times
“The Rams were once again humiliated. It’s time for some real accountability this week.” - Turfshow Times
“They extended their dominance of recent games between the NFC West rivals, defeating the Rams for the seventh straight time. And maybe more important — albeit against the NFL’s worst team — it was a complete game for Seattle.” - Seattle Times
Up Next For the Rams:
The Buffalo Bills - who improved to 3-0 after a late fourth quarter victory over the Oakland, which will inevitably lead to the firing of Raiders head coach, Lane Kiffin. The Bills beat the Seahawks 34-10 in Week 1. Do the math.
The I-70 Kicker Battle:
The battle of the professional Missouri football teams is outstanding. Kansas City and St. Louis. Both 0-3. Have been outscored a combined 61-194. We know it’s bad, and we’ll certainly continue to monitor the, um, progress.
Honestly, we’re exponentially interested in following the battle of the respective punters for Kansas City and St. Louis - Dustin Colquitt and Donnie Jones, respectively.
Both are at midseason form through Week Three, and for good reason. They’ve both punted the ball 20 times. Yes sir, an average of over 6 punts/game, to you math geeks. To put it into context, the ‘99 Rams punted 3.2 times per game and Mat McBriar, the current kicker for the Dallas Cowboys, has only booted the pigskin 8 times this season.
Our very own Ronnie Jones currently has the edge - averaging 51.9 yards/punt and compiling a total of 1037 yards, over Colquitt’s 48.2 average and 963 total.
Statistic That Means Nothing:
Donnie Jones’ 1037 Yards of punting goodness = 0.5892 Miles
At this rate, he’ll hit the illustrious mile-marker in Week 7 at New England. Put the bubbly on ice.
Seattle Fans Are Stoopid:
Televised Seattle games usually make for good mockery because whenever the camera zooms in on the home team’s endzone, a large man holding a “Sea-Fence” sign is made visible. We’ve covered it before on JoeSportsFan, but it’s worth mentioning again - what the hell is “Sea”- “Fence”? It’s obviously a reference to the *very* original D-Fence sign, and this guy thought he would be clever by replacing the “D” with “Sea”. Brilliant.
Even more brilliant is the insane amount of coverage this clown gets by respective broadcasting efforts. An adult man wearing receiver gloves and a XXXL jersey with pit stains by the second quarter, holding a sign that seemingly makes little sense. End rant.

Degenerate Hindsight:
SEAHAWKS (+8.5) over RAMS —- Seahawks covered. Easily. They beat the Rams by 24.
Over/Under: 44 —- 50 total points were actually scored. Unlike the previous two games, the Rams points actually mattered in covering the over. Hang your hat on that one, Mr. Saunders.
Season Betting Statistics:
Rams opponents covering spread, 3-0
Over/Under: 2/1
Did The Rams Defense Give Up 300 Yards Passing?
– Negative: 172 yards (Hasselbeck)
– Season: 1-2
Did The Rams Defense Give Up 100 Yards Rushing?
– Oh Yea: 245 yards (Leaders: J. Jones, 140 and T. Duckett , 79)
– Season: 3-0
Did The Rams Offensive Line Allow More Than 3 Sacks?
– Surprisingly, no: 1
– Season: 2-1
Steven Jackson On Pace for 2500 Total Yards (Over Two Seasons):
Number 39 predicted 2500 total yards from scrimmage at the beginning of 2007. He never got there last season, so we figured we would do him a favor and run the tally - even though it’s 2008. He may have meant “2500 yards over the course of two seasons”. Silly guy.
2008: 159 yds rushing + 133 yds receiving = 292 all purpose yds.
2007: 1002 yds rushing + 271 yds receiving = 1273 all purpose yds.
Total: 292 + 1273 = 1565 yards
* SteveJack made a big push this week - with 128 total yards from scrimmage. With the push, he needs to average 71.9 all purpose yards/game the remainder of the season.
