The Morning Tailgate

Is it just me or does starting the NFL season on a Thursday night just seem wrong?  It’s sort of a lesser version of the MLB starting their season in Japan or Mongolia every year when 99% of the United States is completely oblivious to it.  Now, people in the US weren’t oblivious to the game last night, but in a league that is so intrinsically tied to one specific day of the week (Sunday) it doesn’t seem right that the season starts on a weeknight.

I get why they do it, but I just don’t like it.  Last night was the start of the NFL season and for me it felt like just another Thursday night.  No buzz, no anticipation, I didn’t even watch half of it.  When I roll out of bed on Sunday it will be a different story.  There will be an extra hop in my step, my bacon will be a little more crunchy (if I’m lucky enough to have bacon) and even if St. Louis is still being pummelled by Gustav, it will be sunny.  It will football season.
