The Morning Tailgate
Even though I’m a Cardinals fan and I dedicate an inordinately large amount of my time to following them, I don’t vote for the Cardinals to make the All Star Game. I don’t vote when I’m at the Stadium, I don’t vote online, I don’t vote at all. It has more to do with apathy towards the process than anything - that and the fact that I could never poke out those little holes unless I happened to be carrying a pen or mini-screwdriver with me at the time, which was unlikely.
According to his comments to the Post today, Tony LaRussa doesn’t appreciate that. The Skipper got to complaining a little to Rick Hummel, asking sarcastically “what happened to the great St. Louis Cardinals fans?” after seeing that Yadi Molina was fourth in voting for NL catcher.
On behalf of the Cardinals fan base (which most certainly has not elected me as a spokesman) I apologize to Tony. We haven’t been voting because we were too busy pulling out our wallets and paying your salary and Yadi’s salary and everyone elses. Next time we’ll be a more attentive partner.
